I need a few good volunteers

A couple of weeks ago I received such a nice surprise in my email- an invitation from one of my readers.  She wrote to invite me and my son to her daughter’s birthday party.

She promised that she wasn’t a creeper and that if I was freaked out by the invite, not to feel bad or like I had to make an awkward reply.  She told me a little bit about herself(and I was familiar with her from her comments on my FB page) and poked a little fun at herself and where she comes from and she noted that hey, if I did take a leap of faith and accept her invitation, at the very least it would make for an interesting blog post.

Eureka!

Say no more sister! Little did she realize what a gift she gave me.  The truth is, I’ve been feeling a little blog-blocked and just plain bored of myself.  Bored of talking about myself and thinking about myself.

So here’s my idea, let’s talk about you.

I’m thinking that once a month or so, I’ll spotlight “The Other Mother”.

We’re always talking about not judging that other mother who does this, or doesn’t do that.    Well let’s meet her!  Let’s put our money where are mouths are.

Not everyone can or wants to write a blog, but most everyone wants to tell their story. So let me tell it.

Until you’ve walked a day in someone else’s shoes, right?

Why do you do it the way you do? How do you do it? What makes it work and what would you like the ‘world’ to know about you as a mother?

Are you a single mom struggling to make ends meet?  Do you homeschool your children?  Do you attachment parent?  Have a family bed? Do you have lots of kids? Are you a business woman, juggling it all?   Do you have a special needs child? Are you going to have a homebirth?

Can I come meet you, take a few pictures and show what a day in your mommy-shoes is like?

Yes.  I just invited myself to your homebirth.

I wish I could meet you all and tell all of your stories, but alas, I live here in Maine, so I’m looking for some Maine peeps to step right up.

So that’s my idea.  And I think it could be a lot of fun.  My first post, from a birthday party in Aroostook County, or “The County” as it’s known here in Maine, will be next week.

If you’re interested in letting me, and whomever I drag along with me to make sure that you don’t kidnap me and bury me in your backyard or something…god, did you see The Vanishing? With Sandra Bullock and Keifer Sutherland? Traumatized me for years…. then send me an inbox message at http://www.facebook.com/pages/630-and-a-Glass-of-Wine/157528381016131 or send me an email right here at the Bangor Daily News.

To those of you in, say, New Zealand or Australia, hunting around for old change and anything you can find to scrap together to purchase me a round-trip ticket, listen, I’m sure that your beaches are every bit as beautiful as they seem on…what? Did you say round-trip tickets?

Mothers of Maine, hold those thoughts, I’ll be back in a jiffy!
